Light Up

In partnership with First Fortnight Festival, Creative Producer Laura Larkin and Creative Places Enniscorthy

First Fortnight hosts an annual mental health, arts and culture festival throughout January, throughout Ireland. The festival celebrates the arts as a powerful catalyst for sparking unscripted conversations around mental ill health and serves to challenge the stigma associated with mental ill-health. This year, the festival teamed up with Creative Producer Laura Larkin to bring the festival to Wexford. Creative Places Enniscorthy are co funding the project in Wexford helping to make the projection element possible. “Light Up” will be a fun and creative light art photo painting experience. Participants of all ages are invited to these drop in workshops in FDYS Coolcotts on 9th Jan 4pm – 7.30pm and FDYS Enniscorthy 10th Jan 4pm – 7.30pm to create their own unique light art pieces with the guidance of local professional photographer Louise Scally.

Light painting involves using long exposure photography to capture movement from a light source, allowing participants to play with light and jump, write, or create symbols in the air. The photographs will then be projected onto the Templeshannon Community Centre wall on Sat 11th and Sun 12th January 5pm – 10pm, showcasing these vibrant images and uplifting the community during the darker winter months. This event celebrates young people as artists, offering a playful, creative outlet, introducing them to photography and performance art, all while brightening Wexford’s winter experience.
